The main responsibilitiy of the Maid or Matron of Honor is to assist the Bride in planning her wedding.She is referred to as the Maid of Honor if she is single (unmarried) and the Matron of Honor if she is married.This honor attendant helps the bride to select the bridesmaids' bridal attire and assists in coordinating fittings for the bridesmaids, ring bearer and flower girl, if any.

She traditionally will host a shower or luncheon in honor of the bride.

On wedding day, she ensures the bridesmaids have all necessary accessories and that their flower bouquets are in order.

She assists the bride in dressing and makes any adjustments to the gown and veil before the bride walks down the aisle. She holds the bride's bouquet during the ceremony and makes certain her gown is in place for any photo opportunities.

Following the reception, she may assist the bride in changing from her bridal gown into her going-away attire and will often arrange for cleaning and preservation of the gown while the bride and groom are on their honeymoon.
