Many brides choose to give favors to their wedding guests, sending them home with a special and thoughful momento of their big day. However, depending on the type of favor and the number of guests you plan to have at your wedding ceremony and reception, wedding favors can become quite costly. Some brides are beginning to follow the trend of "do it yourself" wedding favors - and no, it isn't as bad as it sounds. Just grab some inexpensive supplies from your local craft store, use your imagination and of course, enlist a few of your bridesmaids to help you. Pretty soon, you'll have baskets full of gorgeous wedding favors that didn't cost you an arm and a leg.

First, you'll want to pick the favor itself. What would you like to give your guests to thank them for being with you on your special day? Does delicious candy fit the bill or would you rather something classic like a votive candle? This is where being creative is key - you can come up with a whole host of unique ideas for wedding favors. If you and your husband to be are earth friendly or green thumbs, consider sending your guests home with a pouch of seeds they can plant at their own home. Are you having an Asian themed wedding? Plant small bamboo shoots in votive planters and tie a pretty ribbon around each one.

Second, you want to think about your favor decoration. What do you want your favors to look like? Do you want them to be simple or extravagant? Do you want them to match your wedding colors or be completely and totally unique? Consider using all manner of decorations such as tulle circles, ribbons, pearls, silk flowers and more. You can even use candy as a decoration - one bride had a small pouch of pink Hershey's Kisses tied to her wedding favors and they were a huge success. The guests loved that they had a little something sweet in addition to a precious keepsake they could take home with them.

Browse the Internet for ideas. Don't look solely for "homemade wedding favors." Look for wedding favors created by companies or by professional wedding planners and study them to the last detail. How could you make something like that at home? What would you need? Would it be something you could do easily? The bottom line is, when creating your own wedding favors, try as much as you can to make them special, unique and personal. Your guests will pay more attention to the fact that they were created with love just for them than they are at how they look or that you spent a lot of money on them. Just keep in mind the purpose of your wedding favors - to thank your guests for attending and to create one of a kind, special memories that last a lifetime.
